The wheel stop goes down at the end of the bay to settle where the vehicle halts without arguing with the driver. Technical features

A wheel stop settles where a vehicle halts more firmly than a painted line. The tyre meets the stop; positioned correctly, the vehicle halts before the bumper reaches the wall or the next car. Indoors it prevents column damage, outdoors it keeps the footway clear.

The difference between rubber and concrete shows in damage rather than in life. A concrete stop chips at the corner when struck, and the broken piece is both ugly and hazardous. A rubber body takes the blow by compressing and holds its shape.

Installation decides the life of this product more than the product itself does. Holes are drilled in line with the fixing holes: long drive spikes or expansion anchors in asphalt, dowelled bolts in concrete. Left loose on the surface, it migrates within months.

Length follows bay width and vehicle type. In a car bay the stop covers where the wheel will arrive; commercial and bus bays take a longer type. Too short and the vehicle passes beside it, too long and it blocks the pedestrian route.

The stop’s position in the bay is drawn from the overhang, not the wheel: after the tyre meets the stop, the vehicle continues by its front or rear overhang. The clear distance left to the wall, the kerb and the footway is calculated from that overhang and the parking direction (nose-in or reversed); the layout dimension comes with the quotation as a drawing. The fixing is tied to the model too: the hole count and pattern are read from the datasheet, the ground condition (anchor type in asphalt, plugs in concrete) follows the model installation instruction, and the screw-and-plug kit is included in the delivery.

Rubber, concrete or steel wheel stops — how do you choose?

All three are options we quote; the difference is how they behave. A rubber stop absorbs the impact by compressing, resists corner chipping, and one person can carry and fit it. A concrete stop, contrary to assumption, is not cheap — a properly made one costs real money, its weight complicates freight and installation, and its corner can chip on impact. A steel stop is durable but very rigid: it does not soften the blow, and when a vehicle rides over it it bends and deforms, and does not return to shape. In a busy car park and a freezing climate rubber is the balanced choice; all three are priced in the quotation to suit the site.

How is a wheel stop fixed to asphalt and to concrete?

Holes are drilled in the surface in line with the stop’s own holes and it is anchored down. Long drive spikes or expansion anchors in asphalt, dowelled bolts in concrete. A stop left loose on the surface migrates within months; installation decides this product’s life more than the product does. Do not drill the fixing hole too close to the end of the stop. An anchor near the edge tears out the surrounding material on the first hard contact.
