What is GRP, and where is it used in road safety?
How glass-fibre-reinforced polyester is used in delineator posts, snow fences, anti-glare screens and sign profiles, with practical selection checks.
What does GRP mean?
Our GRP roadside product bodies use glass-fibre-reinforced polyester, known as CTP in Turkish. Glass fibres reinforce the part, while the polyester resin binds them into a composite body. The broader English term GRP also covers glass-fibre composites made with other polymer resins. The resin, reinforcement and manufacturing process together determine the finished part's properties.
Why use it in roadside products?
Material composition and section shape can be chosen to produce lightweight profiles for a particular job. Lower component weight can help with handling and installation planning, especially when many pieces must be moved along a route. A GRP body also avoids the rust mechanism of a steel body, although its metal fixings and support structure still need their own protection and checks. Exposure to sunlight, moisture and temperature must be considered when specifying the resin, surface and supporting product evidence.
Four roles in road safety
A flexible roadside delineator post marks the road edge. A snow fence helps manage drifting snow beside the route. A modular anti-glare screen is arranged to limit the effect of opposing headlights. Sign-panel profiles join to form a traffic-information sign panel, which can then receive reflective sheeting. These products share a material family, but each has a different function, shape and installation interface.
Choose the product for the job
Start with the product's task and installation location. For a delineator, confirm the above-ground height, reflector requirements and ground fixing. For a screen or panel system, the carrier and connections also need to match the project. Request drawings and product-specific test or conformity documents for the model offered. Check which properties each document actually covers, together with the applicable country and project specification.
A practical example
Suppose a project needs both a visible road edge and a way to manage drifting snow. Those are two separate requirements: the delineator post marks the edge, while the snow fence serves the snow-management role. Specify each item for its location and project conditions, then review its own dimensions, installation details and supporting documents. Choosing both from one material family does not make the products interchangeable.
