Pedestrian railings

Pedestrian railings are designed to separate people from vehicle traffic on city streets and on the walkways of bridges and viaducts. A stainless steel, aluminium or steel body combines a street-furniture appearance with a durable body; panel and post spacing is dimensioned per project. It is durable, low-maintenance and continuous. A railing line also guides pedestrian flow toward crossing points. Technical features

Material follows the location: stainless steel where marine air or road salt reaches a bridge edge, aluminium where weight matters over long runs, steel where mechanical wear runs high. A pedestrian railing restrains and guides people; protection against vehicle impact is a separate product class and is not promised here. Surface treatment and colour follow the authority specification.

Panel sizes, post spacing and anchor details are settled at quotation against the project drawings; dimension tables and mounting details are shared on request.

The three functions do not substitute for one another. An urban pedestrian railing restrains people and guides them to the crossing. Fall prevention at a bridge edge (a parapet) is a separate job: the height and load requirements come from the bridge design and carry their own documents. Vehicle containment is a third, separate product class, never promised on any railing without a test report. The enquiry states which function is wanted; where all three meet on one drawing, each becomes its own item with its own requirement.

An enquiry becomes technical through six fields: the design load and its basis (which document), the panel and post sections, the height, the connection and foundation type, the surface system (galvanising/coating) and the total run length. On the site side four questions settle the decision: is a railing genuinely needed on this stretch; does the line block driver or pedestrian sight lines; is the clear footway width left after installation sufficient; and do crossing and stop accesses stay open. A line drawn without these answers gets shortened or removed on site.
